citizen journalism training projects

  • Congo in Focus 2010 + 2012

Anne Bailey founded Congo in Focus, a citizen journalism training project based in war-torn North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She taught more than 100 Congolese university students how to report on the stories that were important to them using photos, audio and video.

  • Speak Out Tunisia 2012 + 2013

After the Arab Spring, Anne Bailey launched “Speak Out Tunisia” together with a group of passionate Tunisians dedicated to building a free and fair press after 23 years of oppression under dictator Ben Ali. Anne taught two cohorts of citizen journalists how to report on their communities using video, photos and audio.

  • Necessary Truth project 2014

In 2014 Anne Bailey trained a group of LIbyans to use smartphones to record video testimonials of victims and perpetrators of rape and sexual violence committed during the Libyan war. Funded by the Ara Pacis Initiative, the project aimed to provide tools to begin healing from trauma with dignity.
